Venezuela's Yellow Fever Outbreak Spreads to 14 States
March 16, 2026

Health authorities in Venezuela are intensifying their efforts to combat a persistent yellow fever outbreak that began in 2025 and has continued into 2026.

As of late February 2026, Venezuelan health officials have confirmed 36 laboratory-verified human cases since the outbreak began, with at least six additional cases reported in the first seven weeks of 2026 alone, including one death.

According to recent reports from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Venezuelan officials, the outbreak has affected 14 states, marking a significant geographic expansion compared to previous localized incidents.

Meningococcal disease (meningitis and septicaemia) is an uncommon but serious disease caused by meningococcal bacteria.

UKHSA is now advising anyone who visited Club Chemistry on 5 March, 6 March or 7 March to come forward for preventative antibiotic treatment as a precautionary measure.

Advice has been issued to 16,000 staff and students at the University of Kent, where antibiotics are also being offered to those who need them.

Meningococcal disease can progress rapidly. Signs and symptoms of meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia can include a fever, headache, rapid breathing, drowsiness, shivering, vomiting, and cold hands and feet. Septicaemia can also cause a characteristic rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass.

Early symptoms can often be confused with other illnesses such as a cold, flu or hangover, and students are particularly at risk of missing the early warning signs.

Bird flu outbreak confirmed in Kent County flock, Michigan

Mar 16, 2026
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed an outbreak of bird flu among a commercial poultry flock in Kent County.

This is just the second outbreak found in Michigan this year. Infections often wane in the winter, but the virus is still around despite the cold temperatures. State Veterinarian Nora Wineland says infections can rise this spring if bird owners don’t take precautions.

Thanks to the prompt reporting by the flock owner, we can respond quickly. The faster the disease is reported, the faster we can take action to prevent its spread.”

SPECIAL UPDATE: March 16th 2026

Yippie!!! we hit the special Gall Bladder recovery two week mark!

I graduated from wearing mask around loved one and the rooms she frequented for two weeks after her surgery. No problem wearing mask .. comparable to having to wear reading glasses... I will have no problem masking for loved one again inside home if I ever feel she could have been exposed to airborne illness or airborne disease if she ever has to have surgery or dental needs again.
.

She had follow up appointment today. We wear masks and as usual I always get the jitters and nervous worrying if people will mask for us at the doctors office visits when handling my loved one... however the pre-jitters weren't nearly as bad because I pretty much have the doctor, the physician assistant, and nurses trained to mask for us at that place.

The waiting room which is kind the worst part for me psychologically to have to sit amongst maskless people wasn't crowded. I always tell my loved one to be prepared to change seats if someone enters and sits to close for comfort for us. One person came in and sat way across the room so that didn't bother me too much today. They weigh her and then I tell the nurse as we enter the examination room "As usual , we prefer you mask for us , if that's alright" and she complied quite gracefully  and checked my loved ones vitals and such while masked. We remained masked of course through it all. I periodically try to wash hands of loved one and my own and even spray some rubbing alcohol here and there on objects we sit in.

Then as nurse leaves examination room I say to her "please remind the doctor(the physicians assistant) of our masking preferences and we prefer he mask"  The examination went great and my loved one has recovered from gall bladder sure quite well. Evidently there were a lot of gallstones in there and it can be dangerous not to do surgery so I'm glad we got the surgery and it was successful. (as usual we drive home and throw clothes in wash, washing hands a lot and finally taking mask off last before showering)

Here's the deal, airborne illness and airborne disease is the 'Achilles heel' and the weak link in the chain for all healthcare and people. Masking and taking extra precautions is well worth the effort. My loved one just turned 78 and even though she is in relatively good health, for her to get pneumonia or influenza could kill her besides I don't want that stuff either.. I hate suffering and I have rational fear about the long term repercussions many of today's viruses can carry...I just don't like to take those kinds of chances so I mask... Masking for me is nothing. Ive been doing it so long and I mask while doing hard outdoor vigorous work so having a mask on for hours is nothing to me.

The Masked Man

P.S. I did take my inquiry and questions for the doctors and physicians assistance down and deleted these comments off of their Youtube sites.. but I left my public inquiry and concerns and questions here in my previous replies in this thread because they are good questions in regards to why healthcare doesn't mandate masking for all healthcare workers to help prevent airborne illness and airborne disease which is such a problem today and shouldn't we mask simply because we work with  high proportion of seniors? ...and shouldn't we  mask because seniors  have a natural decline in immunity system due to age , etc? and its important seniors don't get sick? Healthcare should answer to these concerns and questions or rather I should say all of healthcare should mask automatically for these reasons and these concerns.

I forgot to mention something that transpired in the hospital waiting room where I sat in my mask while my loved one received gall bladder surgery. For the most part I just sat there with crossed arms and practically napped or meditated somewhat. People were fairly still and fairly quiet. All I know is as soon as I pulled a book out of my back pocket and tried to read a little it was like the whole place started relaxing too much for my taste .. the place started getting louder and louder and people started visiting a lot louder. I stuck the book back into my pocket , crossed my arms and pretended to nap or just stare into the distance or sometimes it  was like I was thinking to myself staring at the ceiling sometimes..but mostly I just remained as still as possible with arms crossed and it got real quiet again . I liked that.. it was like everybody's breath slowed down and they were real quiet .. it felt safer to me ... Maybe the room was respecting a guy in  a mask  napping ..all I know is  I just totally preferred everybody being nice 'n' still, quiet, and calm so I just sat there half snoozing with arms crossed and the place stayed fairly calm and quiet like everybody's heart rate got real slow.

I hope my experiences helps someone at this site with their journey. It helped me tremendously to share my feelings and views as a person concerned with viruses, as a person who 'masks', and a caregiver on this site and I thank viewers and readers for allowing me the opportunity to share my feelings, thoughts, and what I went through and my ideas during my loved one's Gall Bladder surgery and her recovery.

Cambodia reports 2nd human case of bird flu in 2026

03-15-2026

PHNOM PENH, March 15 (Xinhua) -- A 45-year-old woman from far northwest Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province had been confirmed positive for H5N1 human avian influenza, becoming the second case of this year, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Sunday.

The victim, living in Ropak village of Preah Netr Preah district, was confirmed positive for the virus by the National Institute of Public Health on Saturday.

Investigations revealed that the patient raised chickens and ducks, and some of her poultry fell ill and died. She tested positive for H5N1 three days after having direct contact with the dead poultry, the ministry said in a statement.

Health authorities are looking into the source of the infection and are examining any suspected cases or people who have been in contact with the victim in order to prevent an outbreak in the community, the statement said.

Why has early pollen been so bad this year in the Carolinas?
A cold end to winter, combined with a surge of March warmth, has allowed for many trees to pollinate at the same time.

COMMENT:
Bam! I just got hit with some allergies overnight! For me it was just a runny nose and little headache all night! Could be worse.. just took a antihistamine and decongestant... I wear a mask all the time outside but that certainly didn't keep allergies from getting me through my clothes or seeping into home somehow!

Factors for me:
Spent the whole day outside yesterday even though I masked
Didn't have air purifiers ready (So I cleaned filters for air purifiers and air conditioners and turned them on so that seems better)
Maybe I didn't wash some of the clothes I had worn all day outside yesterday  (now I'm washing them)
Maybe my diet of cheese and whole milk yesterday didn't help

Ive had this happen a few times to me and usually if I limit my time outside when pollen count is up and throw my clothes in the washer and shower right away, then my allergies go away in about 24 hours..

...we shall see if I'm not better in a day! For me, just in my particular case usually these allergies almost always happen to when I mow the grass then do a bunch of other outside activities in a row. I wear a mask all the time outside so it always freaks me out a little and shocks me as to how powerful allergens can be and get inside your clothes and home I guess.

In 6 years of masking I can say Ive never been sick but  maybe 3 times/days/occasions Ive gotten a runny nose from allergens. Once was when I was working on plumbing in a dark damp area.. I got a runny nose that evening of plumbing without my mask on.. so I quit plumbing and a day later I was fine so then when I started plumbing again, I wore a mask and avoided wearing the same clothes while plumbing and so I had no problem after that.. then the other two times would happen the evening  after mowing the grass (even though I mask while mowing)... I never got allergies after mowing if I came inside and washed my clothes right away and showered right away ...usually the allergy would always happen if I did something like stayed outside for a super long time after mowing the grass and didn't change my clothes or shower right away after mowing. Even though I masked outside the whole time I'd still get allergies later that evening...

...It must have something to do with allergens getting on clothes and in hair and seeping into home somehow because my mask is always on outside. I guess I'm bringing it indoors or it just gets inside the house naturally from nature. Any way that's about three times in 6 years of masking that I've ever gotten any kind of runny nose. So far far Ive managed it so when allergies strike they have have only lasted a day for me tops. A runny nose is an extremely rare event for me. We shall see if using air purifier and washing clothes and not spending prolonged period outside during high pollen count does the trick again for me! Ive have never had allergens or allergy symptoms for more than a day in six years so we shall see how I feel tomorrow after having cleaned the air filters on the air purifiers and the air conditioners and after having washed  yesterday's clothes better and perhaps I'll limit my time outside.

lol.. Just the fact my nose started running feels totally crazy and freaky for me  because I am such a die hard masker and never get sick! I feel perfectly fine but like I said its just a weird sensation having a runny nose whatsoever  ..so far it has never lasted long longer than a day lol.. So when I get a runny nose its like a total shock to the system..lol

The Masked Man

P.S. It sounds kind of crazy but now its like I have to mask the home. I have to go the extra mile and cock the windows better..make seals airtight.. keep filters clean vacuum etc. Ive neglected some of that and its time for me to put some elbow grease into it. Ive got to to a better job of "masking" the home from certain elements and the weather!

UPDATE:March 15th 2026
I guess the antihistamine and the decongestant medicine did the trick and all the other little things I did worked pretty fast. I seem to be fine again.. nose stopped running ... now I just need to sleep.. the allergy medicine must have kept me up all night.
