Probe conducted on chickenpox outbreak at Thai university

A doctor said that chickenpox is common, with around 10,000 cases recorded nationwide over the first two months of 2026.

BANGKOK – The Department of Disease Control has launched an urgent investigation into a chickenpox outbreak at two faculties at Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus, after classes were moved fully online from March 3 to 6. Officials said an investigation team was dispatched and authorities are tracing cases linked to a mid-February student camp.

Chickenpox spreads easily through coughing and sneezing, as well as contact with a patient’s secretions, the doctor said.
