Oldham County Schools have announced a temporary shift to virtual learning due to a significant number of student and staff absences caused by illness. The district reported that on Monday, February 3rd, roughly 1,700 students were absent.

Additionally, more than 200 staff members and 15 transportation workers called in sick.

Plainfield, Vt. (WCAX) - An uptick in flu, COVID, and a stomach bug shuttered two Washington County schools this week and overwhelmed a local hospital.

Tuesday February 4th was a sick day for students and staff at the Cabot School and Twinfield Union. Both schools closed their doors, overwhelmed with students and teachers under the weather.

St. Hilary School will be closed Tuesday, February 4, with over 20% of students and 15% of staff out due to illness.

The Coventry Local School District will be closed today, Tuesday, February 4, because of a lack of available bus drivers due to an unusually high number of seasonal illnesses.

Cincinnati Ohio:

A rise in illness at the Newport Independent School District is causing school closures and students being placed on nontraditional instruction this week, officials said.

An outbreak of flu and stomach virus cases has led to low attendance at the district, the entirety of which is transitioning to non-traditional instruction on Tuesday Feb 4th and Wednesday Feb 5th, school officials said in a Facebook post.

Iowa: Laurens-Marathon's elementary school in Pocahontas County dismissed early Monday, February 3rd because of it.

The school district says 24% of its students and staff are out sick.

The school was also closed on Tuesday, February 4th.

Montgomery County PA: Whooping cough case reported at North Penn School District elementary school.

"The Montgomery County Office of Public Health has identified a case of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, at Bridle Path Elementary School, according to a message to the community by the North Penn School District.

This information was reported to MCOPH on January 31, according to the message."

NASHVILLE, Tennessee: Three school districts in Middle Tennessee have announced closures.

The closures from Lebanon Special School District, Houston County Schools and Lincoln County Schools are linked to illnesses.

“Houston County Schools will be closed Wednesday-Friday Feb. 5th-7th due to widespread illness,” HCS said in a FB post.

Meanwhile, the Lebanon Special Schools District has also announced a closure through the end of the week. LSSD confirmed to WSMV4 that it was also closed due to illness.
