SUMMARY - In the United States, listeria has officially sickened 28 people and likely several more in at least 12 states. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has yet to positively identify a source but a prime suspect appears to be deli meats sold over the counter. The official cases occurred from between May 29 through July 5th of this year. Officials are urging people to heat their deli meats before consumption.

SUMMARY - Boar's Head Provisions, a company that makes liverwurst and deli-sliced meats, has recalled some of its products as part of an investigation into what has caused a Listeria outbreak in the United States that has spanned 13 states and has sickened at least 34 people, two of whom have since died. A sample of the company's liverwurst at a store in Maryland tested positive for listeria. It is not yet known how connected this company is with the listeria outbreak.

SUMMARY - An additional 7 million pounds of Boar's Head Provisions Co., Inc. products are being recalled as a result of an investigation into a Listeria outbreak that has resulted in over 30 hospitalizations and two deaths. A recent development in the investigation is that an unopened Boar's Head product contained the same strain of Listeria that has been identified in some of the patients.

SUMMARY - The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released updated numbers detailing the scale of the Listeria outbreak in the United States. The cases of listeria illness is now at 43 while there has been a third death associated with the outbreak.

SUMMARY - The plant that caused this listeria outbreak in 2024, has been cleared to re-open. However, other plants owned by the same company, Boar's Head, have similar problems that caused the listeria outbreak and these problems were as recent as June 2025.
