Author Topic: Psittacosis / "Parrot Fever" - Argentina - Human-to-human transmission?  (Read 1914 times)

SUMMARY - A cluster of 60 cases of "atypical pneumonia" is occurring in the country of Argentina. Some of that cluster has been confirmed to be Psittacosis (otherwise known as "Parrot Fever") but others have yet to be positively identified. Unlike its common name, psittacosis isn't confined to parrots but can be spread to humans by any type of bird. What is concerning investigators for now is that there is no obvious connection to birds with these cases which would suggest human-to-human transmission. More analysis of these cases are needed before a method of transmission can be determined.
