Cryptosporidiosis - UK - 2024 Devon County Incident

SUMMARY - (Country: United Kingdom) In the county of Devon, residents are being asked to boil their water as the water company, South West Water, has detected small amounts of the parasite cryptosporidium which causes the illness "cryptosporidiosis." Hundreds have been claimed to be sickened but, so far, there have only been 22 verified cases with another 70 cases being investigated. The illness typically causes diarrhea-type symptoms and typically lasts for about two weeks.

SUMMARY - The number of confirmed cases of cryptosporidiosis is now at 77. The amount of compensation for households that are still under a boil water notice has gone up from £115 to £265. The cause of the outbreak is believed to be a damaged air valve on private land.
