Covid Booster Reports
« on: »
I thought that there should be a thread for people to share their experiences with receiving Covid booster vaccines. Do you have strong reactions? Weak? Do you receive Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax or (especially if you are not from the U.S.) another brand?

Granted, this topic was not created to 'shame' others in any way in order to receive the booster sooner than convenient. Everyone has their own schedule and reasons for why and when they receive their booster.

Instead, it is a topic to celebrate the fact that you have received a booster and that you do care about protecting yourself and others from the current strains of Covid-19 that is currently circulating throughout the population.

I will start the topic off by saying that I have received the latest Covid-19 booster (Moderna). I am about three hours removed from receiving it. I tend to have strong reactions to these boosters; Therefore, I am a bit apprehensive about what the effects may be. As of right now, all that I have is a bit of soreness at the area of injection. My reactions tend to occur about 12 hours after injection so it should be interesting how I fare this time around.

While I would normally have waited for a Friday so that I could take Saturday as a recovery day, the opportunity was there to receive one today and so I did. There was no line; My family was the only one waiting for the booster.

So, please, post here when you receive your booster and share your experiences about it.

Just shared this thread on 3 social media platforms. I intend to get my Novavax booster when it is available at the place I got mine last time. I filled out an inquiry form for it today, so I am notified when it is in.

My update:

I am currently at home recovering from my Covid booster shot.

To reiterate the timeline (all times local), I got my shot at around 4:30 PM yesterday (2024-09-11) and prior experience led me to know that I have both strong reactions and that those reactions hit about 12 hours after receiving the vaccine.

I was fairly normal through 4-430 AM. There was an increase of soreness at the injection site but nothing that would have caused me to not go to work. I always get shots on my non-dominant arm in order to have more options as to how to function normally. There was a bit of body ache and light-headedness but it didn't seem to hamper my morning routine too much.

By the time I was traveling to work, my thought was always in having an early day and leaving work early regardless of the outcome - Go in, perform all of the critical assignments and, if I wasn't improving, leave. I'm not a CEO; The organization can survive without me for one day.

After performing initial tasks at work, I was not improving and, I felt, I was slowly getting worse. I knew about my prior history with Covid shots / boosters and I had to make a judgment call as to whether I could drive home safely. After an hour at work, I left shortly before 6 AM. At that time, I didn't feel significantly worse but I still wasn't feeling better. Also, while performing work assignments, brain fog had caused me to make errors that I would not have normally made. Also, I was sucking down a lot more water than usual for a typical day.

I drove home and immediately got into PJs. By 6:30 AM, my condition had degraded to the point where, had I been driving, my ability to drive would have been significant degraded to the point of potentially harming myself and/or others.

By 7 AM I was lying in bed or under the covers. My body temperature felt very high regardless of how much water I drank. Until 9:30 AM, I was incapacitated to the point where walking, talking and concentrating on even basic stimuli (such as watching TV) was not conducive to recovery. Since 9:30 AM I have slowly felt better to the point where I am currently writing this post.

At this current time, I am improving but still feel achy. My biggest improvement is comprehension and the ability to perform basic-to-moderate tasks (such as writing this post). I still feel as though I have an elevated temperature.

Good luck to the rest of you out there.

A further update:

At this point, I feel that the effects of the Covid booster are over. Yesterday was mostly dominated with sluggishness, brain fog and tiredness. I tried eating a very late dinner yesterday of chicken noodle soup and that took a lot of time to finish. However, I had a mostly normal breakfast and (for all intents and purposes) a normal lunch.

This morning, there was some sluggishness and weakness (likely because of the lack of appetite from yesterday). I do not feel as though I still have that sluggishness now. If I had to make an estimation, I would say that at noontime, today, I was completely capable of going to work and performing all of my work-related tasks with near-normal efficiency.

To condense the timeline of events (times are approximate):

** 4:30 PM (Wednesday) Received booster.
** 4:00 AM (Thursday) Slight brain fog, Slight-to-moderate sluggishness
** 6:00 AM (Thursday) Rapidly increasing brain fog, sluggishness & tiredness.
** 6:30 - 9:30 AM (Thursday) Severe brain fog, sluggishness & tiredness. Functionally bedridden.
** 9:30 AM - 7:00 PM (Thursday) Slow improvements in recovery with relapses. Intermittently bedridden, capable of shuffling around but no capacity to run, jog or even quickly walk.
** 2:00 AM (Friday) Brain fog has realistically lifted
** 4:00 AM (Friday) Still some sluggishness and weakness; Still did not trust myself to operate heavy machinery (such as an automobile) but I suppose I could have in an emergency.
** 11:00 AM (Friday) The first time I considered myself "functionally near normal" to the point where I could operate heavy machinery without any concern or perform job-related tasks with no significant loss in efficiency.

I don't write these experiences to discourage anyone from getting the Covid-19 booster. Get the Covid-19 booster. I write this so that others may base their own experiences off of this one and to compare notes. I consider my reactions to the Covid-19 shots to be strong. Yours may, and will likely, be different.

Good luck to the rest of you out there.
