Here’s some grim albeit useful news;
Reality: a pervasive disease is mutating/changing every season four and a half years straight… thats never happened before in any of our lifetimes since 1917 .. the disease is new and it’s real.. long covid will accumulate and prevail .. people are in denial they can’t help it… they can’t handle the fear properly and they can’t handle it psychologically.. they don’t have the discipline or attention span… all they want is what they perceive to be is normal. They just want things to be normal. But this is not normal. It’s not normal for us to be in this world where people get sick all year long here in America every season for four and a half years straight… this isn’t my opinion.. it’s a fact and it’s true. To not fear this disease and simply go along with the crowd pretending all is well is to be in denial such is the temptation to simply belong to the group … nothing will change and things will get worse if we deny the existence of this four and a half year long pervasive disease that continues to circulate. It’s not normal to simply hope it goes away or pretend it won’t happen to us. Many of us have never been very sick before so it must be hard to fathom that this isn’t a yearly cold. It is a mutating virus unlike history has ever seen before.. respect this reality: dare to be different .. if we don’t take control and behave differently this disease will continue its reign and if we pretend: it’s to live with a disease that people are catching sometimes three times a year we gotta be crazy or stupid  not to be scared … if people aren’t scared right now and they just want to act normal then they are in denial. I’m wearing an n95 mask with a vented valve .. I’m not going to act normal when this mutating virus still reigns. This is an abnormal disease ridden era unlike I’ve ever seen and I’m protecting and defending myself and not going to pretend the disease doesn’t exist .

Now here’s the GOOD news about today’s pandemic challenge … never before in history have we had an amazing means of communication and way of collaborating; namely the internet! Never in history have we been able to trade, communicate , collaborate , inform , educate , and share before via online internet! We can even be creative and often engage in arts, entertainment, hobbies , reading, etc. we have never had that power at our disposal and at our fingertips ever in history! It’s a powerful tool to connect with one another without being in person… so that’s the good news we have an amazing tool besides just the mask to help us all get through this. That is a powerful tool that wasn’t available to those in the previous times when plagues and pandemics also hit. We should be okay If we use  all the tools we have today!

.. more factors to consider … I’ve never been afraid of covid  but I’ve always been afraid of Long Covid before it was even discovered or it’s existence confirmed. I always  knew to guard against the long term repercussions of contracting covid or any disease for that matter. My grandfather caught malaria in the war and had long term health problems for rest of his life and even though malaria is not covid , long term repercussions and chronic health problems are not my cup of tea… furthermore I had asthma as a child and had to get shots every week and almost died once from it  when I was little. I am free of asthma now but maybe I learned to guard against covid more because I learned from these past experiences how important it is to remain disease free since disease  is definitely not pleasant even if you survive it. Since I’m against pain and suffering, I am for taking precautions and measures against disease.

Compare this to the Spanish flu times here’s some major factors involved… 1) currently the diseases seem to be mutating which means the disease is changing all the time making cures obsolete faster or possibly even impossible  2) we have a higher population than during Spanish flu and a denser “super spreading” population nowadays 3) we have super high rate of personal travel and personal transportation galore which means illnesses fly as fast as a plane town to town overnight 4) we have climate change which might play a role only making diseases in third world countries worse and therefore everywhere since we all travel…
…however we have do have better faster online communications worldwide to help us communicate about where the diseases are coming and going and to help us with the science of understanding the germs. So we have better technology to communicate and share without being in person but at the same time we are definitely amidst a mutating virus that has touched the lives of many for four and a half years and so we are in a pandemic/ plague no doubt. At least we know it so we stand the greatest chance to use all the tools and adaptive  behavior to be able to chose how we want to defend ourselves.. at least we have that understanding given to us from the beautiful online world we call the internet.

Now I'm thinking (just thinking out loud..brainstorming) about Programming/deprograming theory about illness.

I'd like to introduce some ideas that may spur others to comment or bring ideas to this thread... feel free to state any ideas you have about some of the psychological challenge of this pandemic or rather slew of outbreaks, viruses and diseases that have reared their ugly heads to us this era over the past five years. Think of this thread as brainstorming thread where you can toss ideas around if you'd like feel free to post any ideas you have no matter whether you think your ideas are dumb ideas or not... no idea is too dumb to post in my thread at this stage of life.

One of my latest theories is that many of us have been programmed
or raised not to be afraid of illnesses and diseases even though we in our present times should be afraid. Its as if we as a society were raised to not think about that danger of diseases and illness therefore we need to deprogram ourselves so that we relearn a natural aversion to illness and disease in order to react and protect ourselves and develop better self defense skills against disease and illness. We should to develop our sense of flight techniques rather than our sense of fight instincts in a pandemic/outbreak age to survive.

To memory people are like babies when it comes to how to react to the new illnesses and diseases which are more dangerous now for us.. we are like babies in that babies will crawl right out into a busy highway or stick their fingers right into a lion's mouth ... we have to relearn boundaries and learn to embrace rational fears certain fears or aversions that make sense to have in our present times and present situation at hand.

To little old me, there's something weird going on like people aren't scared enough or can't talk about scary things... but you can in this thread. No one will call you a conspiracy theorist or anything here in this thread that's for sure.

I for one think there is almost an amnesia amongst people who get well after an illness.. like they think they won't get sick again or they forget they were sick and then go out and take the same chances as before.. I dunno like something  people have an inherent disability to learn from diseases. Why is that?

Regardless of that last idea,
I feel like society has to go through a little revolution of sorts and do some changing in how they respond to threats like illnesses and diseases. The last five years have proved an onslaught of airborne diseases have been circulating pretty much nonstop. Society has to reexamine its response to illnesses or diseases.

There seem to be widespread reluctance amongst many institutions and customs amongst peoples to discuss or deal with these issues and social changes in a responsible sensible manner. There is reluctance or confusion as to  disclosure of diagnosis amongst people .. there  is an element of shame in diseases and illnesses in our work driven culture or even in the family.

Soon to come I hope to explore the psychology of the Fight/flight response in people to help understand how people might act in various ways in the face of a threat such as when microscopic entities wreak havoc on society and its members.

Let us begin to explore together
What is deprogramming?
Deprograming is a release (someone) from apparent brainwashing, typically that of a religious cult, by the systematic reindoctrination of conventional values.

What is deprogramming in psychology?
Deprogramming is a form of confrontational therapy in which the therapist, often an ex-cultist, attempts to neutralize the effects of cultic conditioning and restore the individual's freedom of thought.

again this last reply is but food for thought..I'm just trying to open up some approaches or ideas that might be useful in how we should think about these microscopic entities and how not to deny their existence and how to live with them without going crazy or getting hurt by the microscopic entities and the society that must adopt or embrace new modes of thinking in the light of these various illnesses and diseases which have increased in rate, number and mutations in this era and day and age.

Feel free to comment or add any ideas, problems, or possible solutions of your own no matter how articulate or unarticulate that might contribute to our understanding of what might break the curse of  denial or incompetence in the face of a pandemic or onslaught of various illnesses and diseases we as people might face. Feel free to brainstorm with me and run with any ideas you got here in this thread.

Later,
The Masked Man
