Introduction to Epidemiology  Section 10: Chain of Infection

SUMMARY:
Just an excerpt or section of a Study about the theory of 'the chain of infection'...

As described above, the traditional epidemiologic triad model holds that infectious diseases result from the interaction of agent, host, and environment. More specifically, transmission occurs when the agent leaves its reservoir or host through a portal of exit, is conveyed by some mode of transmission, and enters through an appropriate portal of entry to infect a susceptible host. This sequence is sometimes called the chain of infection...

..That was just an excerpt..

P.S.
It says: "This page is archived for historical purposes and is no longer being updated.
This is archived content from the CDC website. The information here may be outdated and links may no longer function"...

... however I am having no problems with the links and find as a layperson that this is a fairly 'easy to read' outlined introduction to a general explanation of Epidemiology.

PRAGMATIC COMMENT:
I can't say this is my mere opinion because it is based on a basic knowledge of Epidemiology..so if my understanding of the rudiments of Epidemiology is correct, then I confer if doctors and nurses and people in healthcare actually read about this traditional epidemiologic triad model, that they would agree to wear masks and take  precautions with patient interaction in their facilities. Seems intelligent for those in the medical field to understand this interaction that occurs to and fro from agent, host, and environment so that those concerned can be pragmatical about it and not inadvertently host, become agent, or contaminate the environment with the infectious illness themselves.

Having had aquainted myself with the basics of Epidemiology  and the Chain of Infection, I would think of applying it to the real world  and I would make sure my healthcare facilities were all were using precautions and taking measures such as masking to filter out infectious microbes, sanitation and hygienic measures such as employing the use of antiseptics to kill surface germs and even air purifying of rooms with apparatuses that create proper ventilation that push old air out while pulling fresh air in. All the aforementioned precautions together would be necessary in countering and blocking the interaction of pathogens that occurs to and fro from agent, host, and environment.

After reading the basics of Epidemiology and the Chain of Infection I don't see how anybody can argue against masking in health care areas... that's for sure. You'd have to mask around your patients and have your patients mask too after reading that!

As a doctor, Nurse, patient,Visitor, guest, receptionist, deliveryman, sales rep, or a passerthru in a Healthcare area, you don't want to be in the chain of infection so You'd mask for the "Airborne Droplets " you'd wash your hands just incase you had "direct contact"  in front of patients, and likely wear gloves to avoid further "direct contact" Because you don't want to be a Vector and transmit "Vectorborne (mechanical or biologic) infections"! Seems reasonable to me that anybody with even an inkling of understanding about basic Epidemiology would agree to wear a mask to help prevent the spread of airborne illnesses and airborne diseases in a healthcare "environment".

Haven't been in the chain of infection since pandemic began in 2020, Ive been masking and not even a cold, Been neither vector nor victim,
