Massive Omission in Media Coverage of Measles Outbreaks
« on: »
I keep waiting for some journalist or pundit to bring this up, but so far if it has surfaced, I haven't seen/heard it.

Measles can cause immediate health problems and/or death, as well as having mild to severe long-term effects in most cases. But the worst aspect of measles is that it resets your immune system - it wipes immunity to other pathogens that you've built up through vaccination and/or infection. (Incidentially, this major medical discovery from the mid-2010's is one of Michael Mina's claims to fame, back before he became a virus minimizer.) At a time when most people's immune systems are shot because of covid...? And we have H5N1/H9N2, seasonal flu strains, RSV, tuberculosis, pertussis, HRSV, norovirus, and whatever else in the wind....??!

Seems highly relevant to what we have to look forward to when it comes to overall health trends - especially as virologists try to guage potential death rates of an HPAI pandemic. A percentage of the population being entirely immune-naïve seems like a giant factor in how bad things could get  :-\

Measles is much more serious than a rash and fever: it also causes immune amnesia and leaves patients especially vulnerable to secondary infection.
