SUMMARY - The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a press release, stating that it has not detected the recent Covid variants EG.5 & BA.2.86 in it's country as of August 26, 2023. The agency considers Covid-19 "...a problem for those at high risk – the elderly, those with underlying chronic illnesses, especially hypertension, diabetes, those on cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, and those whose immune systems are suppressed for one reason or the other..."

NOTE - In order to avoid confusion, please note that this press release is for the country of Nigeria and not Niger. Niger has recently been in the news due to a government coup.
