China Data Report
« on: August 20, 2023, 11:00:11 pm »
I'm resident in Changsha, China, just 300km S of Wuhan.

Since early December we've not had any regular reports of infections, variants or deaths. About twice since then there have been some general snippets apparently from the China CDC, but generally broadcast from the South China Morning Post, situated in Hong Kong.

My latest news comes from an English Language group on We
Chat, dated 2023-08-19.
https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/1POyoz4KPdEj0IS7nh8oAg

about EG.5 reported in Fosha, Guangdong. Increasing reports of individuals on Social Media reporting 3rd infections.

My personal experience: I've not heard of any friends/relatives being infected since May 2023. I spent 2 weeks in hospital for gastro things in June and all staff masked (unlike the UK where no medics wear them). However hardly anybody else is wearing masks. I'm the only one in N95 on the bus. Back in Dec/Jan & the previous 3 years 100% were in masks and most out of doors as well.

Vaccinations is an interesting topic. My wife and I got 2nd boosters mid April, BUT, two days later the protocols had changed and my 91 year old father in law was refused! There have been recent reports that a Chinese multi-variant vaccine is going to be available to the elderly and vulnerable, 6 months after previous vaccination or infection. That puts us into October.

Many thanks for all your regular reporting.

Contradicting previous reports, this shows that daily infections in China have risen nearly 3x during August to just short of 1m new cases daily. It's not being talked about!

Thank you. She says she's over the worst of it. Different symptoms this time. No fever. Fatigue and anosmia. Fingers crossed.

Absolutely nothing on the Chinese CDC WeChat channel at all. Even its global report doesn't even mention Covid amongst a selection of infectious diseases!!!

And the CDC seems to be the only WeChat channel that mentions health matters at all. Prior to December it was everywhere!

Today's China CDC report on WeChat reported on fever clinic numbers for the month of August. Roughly level at 125,000 though it did fluctuate a bit. But zero mention of general infection levels (see report a few days ago) where numbers rose 3x in the month to around 1m. So no correlation! Strange!

Hard to find Covid info here in China. It is sometimes there but hidden under the term Influenza or Influenza like disease.

Today's Chinese CDC report on Influenza has this chart, which you can see shows Covid is dramatically more prevalent than flu!

Clinic COVID-19 infections increase significantly, experts say the new coronavirus seasonal trend

DC Information Station  2023-09-25 10:00 Posted on Gansu
I was infected with COVID-19 in December last year, the 'second sun' in May, and now again? Is the new crown "three yang" peak here?Ms. Chen, a citizen, is quite puzzled about her "three worlds." Recently, the number of COVID-19 infections has shown signs of increasing, and there are many infected people similar to Ms. Chen.

The number of COVID-19 infections in outpatient clinics has increased significantly, experts: the new coronavirus also has a seasonal trend

The reporter visited the respiratory departments of many hospitals and found that there was a significant increase in COVID-19 infections in recent outpatients and inpatients. Experts told reporters: “Some infected people have "three yang" and "four yang."After entering the autumn, influenza has a high incidence, and it is currently found that the new coronavirus also has a seasonal trend.”

▲ Recently, many parents have registered with children with fever and cough to the hospital, many of them infected with new coronavirus.

What are the main symptoms of "three yang" patients?

Most of the onset is pharyngodynia, nasal congestion, runny nose, most of the symptoms of fever, but high fever, muscle soreness is relatively rare.Yan Wensheng, deputy chief physician of the respiratory department of Guangdong Second People's Hospital, said: “Recently, I have indeed contacted many COVID-19 positive patients, and I have several friends around me. Most of these patients are home self-test antigen positive, and then come to the hospital. At present, there are three or four patients in the respiratory ward. They are infected with the new crown after suffering from underlying disease.”Usually fever is more than three days, we recommend a chest CT, some patients have pneumonia performance, severe patients recommend hospitalization.

Why are people repeatedly infected?

Liu Jianbo, chief physician of the respiratory department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, told reporters: “At present 'two yang' cases are more common, there are also 'three yang'. The mechanism of such repeated COVID-19 infection is complex, and it is speculated that it is mainly due to the fact that some people have not established an effective immune barrier after infection, or the protective antibody is not maintained for a long time, but the specific mechanism needs further research.”

Many people worry that if they are repeatedly infected with the new coronavirus, will it have a great impact on the body?

Yan Wensen said that from the current clinical observation, most people have mild symptoms after repeated infection, which shows that the body has a certain amount of antibodies, and the amount of virus infection is not too high, so the overall impact on health should be small.

Will the overall situation of the low epidemic of the new coronavirus change? Disease control: maintain low prevalence of recurrent infection symptoms less

Information released by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that from August 1 to August 31, 2023, 31 provinces (autonomous regions, A total of 9608 Chinese NCV genomic sequences were submitted, which were Omicron variants, covering 106 evolutionary branches. The main prevalent strains were XB series. The top three are XBB.1.9 and its sub-branches, XBB.1.22 and its sub-branches, XBB.1.16 and its sub-branches.

The National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention said that recently, the national COVID-19 is generally in a low level and wave-like epidemic situation, and the epidemic has brought less pressure to the local medical system, and there will be no large-scale epidemic in the short term.

Yan Wensen reminded that as with previous measures to prevent infection, we should continue to maintain good personal hygiene habits.

Experts also advise the public, especially the elderly, patients with severe underlying disease and other high-risk groups to take personal protection.Wear a mask when traveling on public transport or in crowded indoor public places.

Autumn and winter are the high season of influenza, and influenza vaccination is at that time.

Recently, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention released the "Technical Guidelines for Influenza Vaccination in COVID-19 vaccination (2023-2024)," which combined with the World Health Organization's recommendations on influenza vaccination and Chinese simultaneous vaccination, and combined with domestic and international research progress, it is recommended that:

People aged 18 and overInactivated influenza vaccine and COVID-19 vaccination may be administered on both limbs at the same time as receiving immunization services;

People under the age of 18,It is recommended that the interval between influenza vaccination and COVID-19 vaccination vaccination should still be longer than 14 days.

Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council: Do a good job in the prevention and control of key infectious diseases on the Mid-Autumn Festival National Day

As the Mid-Autumn National Day holiday in 2023 approaches, the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council issued the Notice on Effectively Preventing and Controlling Covid-19 Infections and Other Key Infectious Diseases Before and After the Mid-Autumn National Day Holiday in 2023 (the Notice) on the 22nd. The Circular states that there will be a significant increase in cross-regional mobility, immigration and aggregation activities as a result of the Mid-Autumn Festival National Day holidays Dengue fever, malaria and other mosquito-borne infectious diseases, and infectious diarrhea and other intestinal infectious diseases are at increased risk.

Therefore, it is recommended that the public should pay attention to the following matters when traveling during the holiday:

Before the trip,Pay close attention to the epidemic situation of infectious diseases in the destination and the health risk tips issued by relevant departments, timely understand the relevant infectious disease prevention and control knowledge, and arrange the trip reasonably. In case of fever, cough and other symptoms, it is recommended to suspend travel.

The second is during the journey.Wear masks scientifically and do personal protection in crowded public places, passenger terminals and public transportation. Pay attention to food and drinking water hygiene during the holiday travel, and maintain good personal hygiene habits. When you go out to the natural epidemic focus of plague, epidemic hemorrhagic fever and other diseases, do not contact the animals and products of the epidemic focus, have a history of suspicious contact with monkeypox personnel do a good job of self-health monitoring.

After the three return,Do a good job of self-health monitoring, if the body has abnormal symptoms in time to see a doctor, take the initiative to inform the doctor of the history of going out.
