Bats have become the latest mammals susceptible to H5N1, the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus responsible for bird flu. PUBLISHED Dec 10, 2025 "Each time the virus jumps to a new mammalian host, he says, it gains opportunities to mutate and evolve, potentially bringing it closer to spreading among people" LINK:https://www.unmc.edu/healthsecurity/transmission/2025/12/10/bats-might-be-the-next-bird-flu-wild-card/COMMENT / SIDE-NOTE: Although this article concentrates on the possible avian flu jump from bat to human , I can't help but think about how many bats frequent farms and how bats frequent the rafters of barns, sheds, and livestock shelters. Bat droppings just like mouse droppings could also contribute to the spread of avian flu from bat to other mammals and livestock. It would not shock me if bats could give the avian flu to chickens housed in coop or cows in a barn. There's a lot of bats around farms. Bats go after the type of insects that are also attracted to farm and animal areas... Sometimes farmers even host bats on purpose to reduce insects if I am not mistaken and they build bat houses. I'd say it would be very rare for bats not to be tucked in a little dark corner hidden in the rafter of a barn. That's usually where they are...in the little shadow in the corner of where the rafter meets the roof. Had a buddy and we went catfishing at night next to a river and bats would bounce off the line on or fishing poles all night.. the bats got confused thought the vibration of the line was and insect or something...it just goes to show bats also hunt by the water. (bats bounce off a kite line too if you are reeling in a kite at dusk and also bats can be spooked or confused by sound like the overtones of an electric guitar played real high pitched under certain conditions)

Whoops..I think you meant to put this in the 2026 International HPAI Tracking Thread because the article is not about human infection but rather about ducks infected with avian flu ... However Just a side note: about how asymptomatic ducks are and pose a threat to humans and other mammals :ducks and wild aquatic birds tend to be asymptomatic than than chickens are when they spread and catch avian flu... That being said avian flu is probably asymptomatic for a very short time in chickens although they tend to die much faster than ducks and wild aquatic birds ... which means people really need to take precautions such as masking because they can't tell when these birds are really sick just by looking at them. That's probably going to be a common mistake in that a lot of people will make because they really can't tell when a duck or geese in a park or in a livestock situation are sick or not like they think they can. Many articles or health officials neglect to tell the public enough that avian flu amongst these birds and many other mammals can be so asymptomatic(symptomless as they spread it). Health officials just say if you see a sick bird leave it alone.. I would leave all birds alone to limit exposure .. you know don't touch, breathe in, or let your pets mingle with any birds. "Key differences in bird flu presentation: Chickens: Highly susceptible to HPAI, showing symptoms like sudden death, diarrhea, lethargy, and decreased egg production. Ducks: Can be infected with H5N1 without showing clinical signs, serving as asymptomatic carriers. Wild Birds: Many wild aquatic birds (e.g., ducks, geese) are commonly asymptomatic, allowing them to spread the virus during migration. Diagnosis: Because ducks may not show symptoms, testing is necessary to confirm infection in flocks"

Here's a 'Mask For Airborne Diseases & Stay In Play it Safe From Your Home Music Performance' for ya! Telecaster Rockin' 12 Bar Blues In A & Slow Blues In C minor VIDEO LINK:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpENvd032Hs.. gotta admit I can't stand maskless people... I'll take my loved one for medical care and I request doctors and nurses to mask and they do but that's all I am dealing with. I can go for a masked bicycle ride and dodge people.. maybe do a masked walk with masked loved on on our road when I'm sure people will keep their distance, but that's it.. I'm sick of people not wearing masks. Just can't stand being around them. I mask outside in public on the street and outside my home.. I'm healthy enough ..been masking for over six years with loved one when we go outside.. haven't been sick in over six years because of masking ..I'm not afraid of germs or diseases or illnesses.. I beat them with a mask. I'm just not like most people and its perfectly healthy for me to embrace my masked way of life. Any officials need to see my ID? They can take a nice big thumbprint of mine or my footprint for all I care and match it up to my birth certificate! People who want to join me or collaborate closely can respect me and my loved one and wear a mask if they want my respect and they want to collaborate with me on some well planned out project or something of mutual interest. If the opportunity arose, and it made sense, I'd likely be willing to work outside my home with other masked people. I'm proud and smart. I'm not dealing or messing around.. we wear masks for our health. Hope you enjoy my music, The Masked Man P.S. As Usual Be safe, if you must go out wear an n95 mask, otherwise stay home brothers and sisters. We study pandemics, and the resurgence of measles is a grim sign of what’s coming Mar 15, 2026 "...suddenly, the disease has become so entrenched in American life that it sometimes fails to make headlines when a new outbreak erupts... ...the disease’s resurgence serves as a serious warning about the country’s capacity to manage infectious disease threats of all kinds... People who recover from measles can experience complications such as pneumonia, which can lead to death, or encephalitis, which can later lead to deafness or intellectual disabilities from the brain swelling. The virus can also affect the immune system, making people more susceptible to other infections over the long term, even ones they’ve had before. In rare instances – though more likely if someone is infected as a child – measles patients can develop a progressive dementia... ...Measles is an economic scourge. Recurring outbreaks of measles in the U.S. will mean high economic costs..." LINK:https://www.abc4.com/news/national/we-study-pandemics-and-the-resurgence-of-measles-is-a-grim-sign-of-whats-coming/
