Long COVID stemmed from mild cases of COVID-19 in most people

90% of people living with long COVID initially experienced only mild illness.
The Conversation – Jan 5, 2023

Even mild COVID-19 cases can have major and long-lasting effects on people’s health. That is one of the key findings from our recent multicountry study on long COVID-19—or long COVID—recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

COMMENT: I am uncomfortable with the term 'mild'... its term I have seen people in the public write, say, or label cases that it's only a mild case...To me that seems kind of subjective and dismissive of the seriousness of this disease ... Its not a taco sauce that you can label mild or medium, its a disease that can carry long term repercussions detrimental to physical and mental health! Don't think your safe just because the initial infection is 'mild' or even asymptomatic...

...Think of how many people covid can infect if the cases are but 'mild' and more and more people catch it because they turn a blind eye to the long term repercussions that covid has shown to carry. If my math is correct:  more cases mean more long covid for everybody regardless of how bad people feel the first few days weeks or years after catching covid. It's to the advantage of the disease that people catch it and don't bother to take precautions such as masking to prevent it. The disease spreads more because people think they can whip it and don't respect the long term aspect of it.

Excuse me for drawing these parallels but to my observation: This covid is too much like the street drug 'crack' .. people think they can handle catching covid  but in reality they just can't handle catching it over and over... these are just my personal views but the majority of studies on long covid clearly spell physical and mental damage from covid.

Take care,
The Masked Man

P.S. This was the reasoning as to why I started masking to begin with in 2020.. the disease was relatively novel or at least not much was known about it .. nobody I know lived with the disease half their life yet.. we just don't know what this disease will do to people 7 years or more down the road.. I masked not because I was afraid of surviving the initial infection .. I masked because I was and still am unclear as to what covid does to people in the long haul and because of the possible long term repercussions. Diseases can carry long term repercussions and problems many years down the road.

I mask for health reasons and will continue to because I prefer it now that I have reaped it benefits... the mask has contributed to my safety, my wellbeing, and peace of mind.

The Cross River State Government reported a new case of COVID-19 on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, announced this at a news conference in Calabar, the state capital.

According to Ayuk, the first reported case of the outbreak involved a Chinese national who worked with Lafarge and flew into the country on March 17 before falling ill. He stated that the Chinese’s condition became worse at the medical facility in his office, and he was taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

Although he stated that there had been silent infections and clear cases from time to time.

“But we are determined that for every ailment, every disease or outbreak, if it is identified here in the state, there should be no alarm.

“The state will do well in terms of surveillance or containment of an outbreak. Whatever it is, we will do our best to contain it. So, there is no alarm.

“When this case was reported about three or four days ago, we decided to be careful to confirm and ensure that the processes involved in identifying and confirming every case of COVID-19 are duly followed."
