Here are some companion studies to Data Report's thread..

...One study addresses the role temperature sensitivity plays while the other study concerns itself about asymptomatic factors...

SUMMARY:
Resistant bird flu viruses pose pandemic threat

Bird flu viruses are a particular threat to humans because they can replicate at temperatures higher than a typical fever, one of the body’s ways of stopping viruses in their tracks, according to new research led by the universities of Cambridge (Cambridge, UK) and Glasgow (Glasgow, UK).

In a study published today in Science, the team identified a gene that plays an important role in setting the temperature sensitivity of a virus. In the deadly pandemics of 1957 and 1968, this gene transferred into human flu viruses, and the resulting virus thrived...

Human flu viruses cause millions of infections every year. The most common types of these viruses, which cause seasonal flu, are known as influenza A viruses. They tend to thrive in the upper respiratory tract, where the temperature is around 33°C, rather than deep in the lungs in the lower respiratory tract, where the temperature is around 37°C...

BLACK RATS TEST POSITIVE FOR H5N1
Rats have become the latest addition to the menagerie of animals infected with the H5N1 bird flu virus. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service reported on February 19 that four black rats from Riverside County, California—southeast of Los Angeles County—had tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza. As of February 26, the total number of viral detections in mammals reported by the USDA since May 2022 is 514.

… guess it all depends on where you happen to live insofar as whether health departments and healthcare facilities mention the scientifically proven merits and medical benefits of defending yourselves against airborne illness and disease with N95 masks.

While my Watauga county local health department doesn’t acknowledge or even list masks as a means of preventing whooping cough, This children hospital in Australia recommends masking

“To prevent the spread of whooping cough, ensure you and your family are up to date with immunisations and teach your child good hygiene habits like:
washing hands
not sharing cups
wearing a mask when sick
covering their mouth when coughing
cleaning and disinfecting toys used while sick…

…. Some countries recognize the power of this technology available to protect you that we call the mask while other countries and municipalities don’t recognize the n95 mask whatsoever as an available technology and means that can help prevent airborne illness and disease.

Advocate of the N95 mask,
The Masked Man

P.S. I did a search "mask" at https://www.apphealthcare.com and there was some mention of Masks at their website during 2020 and then they talk about masks in 2022, and that's all there is. Its like masks fell off the face of the earth after 2022 despite covid still being a problem as well whooping cough, influenza, etc. It's like what happen to using the n95 to help prevent airborne illness and airborne diseases!? If masks have been proven to help prevent airborne illness and disease then why not list masks as an option for people? Why ignore science and truth? N95 masks are part of today's technology.

Part 3 of 3...
Photo Attached of Masked Man standing under Cable guy who is up a pole

So here's how it went...

Bearded cable guy showed up maskless. I met him out by his truck. When he saw me in my mask and hardhat, He had a strange look on his face and asked me if some sort of demolition was going on and then I explained to him my mask is because I take care of immunocompromised 77 year old and we don't take chances with covid. Then I explained to cable guy everything was set up outside for him.

He checked some stuff outside by cable box and then had to go up the pole and unhook some old outdated gear in order for our cable internet to work. I made small talk with him from a safe distance about my way of life.

When he was up on the ladder I heard him clearing his throat somewhat excessively like he had some extra mucous in there. Maybe he even spit a couple times. That's not unusual from where I come from but yeah it always makes ya wonder if illness is part of the excess mucous. Excess mucous or not, I always feel safer because of my mask because even people who don't have excess mucous can also be sick..its just nice not reducing chances by wearing mask.

Repairman had me and me alone go inside my home and connect the modem up by myself inside and that did the trick. So we've got our old friend the internet back onto our computers and cable tv and roku back without any repairmen having to enter our den!

So there ya go; mission accomplished: No big bearded maskless guy in our home during Thanksgiving flu season or any season for that matter.. Directly afterwards I took off my jumpsuit and threw it in the wash and misted some stuff with disinfectant before unmasking and now I can sleep well knowing I didn't take chances with a stupid cold, covid , pneumonia or the flu!

Excellent!Got my Internet back without having repairman in our home!

The internet is very important for me. It's the way I connect to the world without being there in person or face to face. We order bulk goods  and necessities online. I perform music and play guitar and share online and I study and learn from very intelligent people online ..I get to choose what kind of friends I want online from a safe distance.. so this is great I got my internet back the safe way without jeopardizing myself or jeopardizing my loved one's safety.

It's awesome to be the Masked Man!

Protect yourselves with a mask,
The Masked Man

Part 2 of 3…

Here I am in this photo attached..
… I am ready! The modem and even the router is plugged in to extension chord outside next to cable box. No need for cable repairman to enter my home!

I can check with cellphone whether modem and wireless router is online after repair person tests if the modem is bad or if the outside cable line has a signal.

Now everything is set up outside for repair person to test! Nothing inside house to test…This is how you take the bull by the horns and take charge and prevent unnecessary risks and guests from having to enter inside your home ye fellow protective masked crusaders!
(My guess is either it’s the modem is going bad or it’s signal from up on the power pole that is problem.. we shall see after repair person comes)

Cable outage/How to stay safe around technician/Masked Man Style!  (part 1 of 3)

So as Masked Man who takes care of himself and loved one, I am heavily active in taking health precautions and measures.

We lost our cable cable connection and i will share what it takes to stay safe and prepare for repairmen.

First and foremost take the time to stay safe. Second educate yourself . And third communicate and establish your plan.

I did everything I could to educate myself and troubleshoot the modem, do as many things I could to test equipment etc.

I was fortunate to be able to have unlimited data from cellphone so I could research online from my phone.

Today I finally called cable company .. we went over steps and this will require an appointment visitation with technician/repairman.

I set everything up so that the repairman can work right outside the house.. I have an extension chord for extra power set up and long cords so that basically the repairman doesn’t have to come inside.

Point is by being accommodating I want to empower others and make it possible for others to follow my rules of staying safe. I will have everything set up outside beforehand so the repairman doesn’t have a reason to ask to come inside.

I also simply communicated to person setting up appointment that we take precautions with masks and that  I care for an immunocompromised person at home and prefer to accommodate the repairman so that it won’t be necessary for him/her to enter house. The person handling the appointment seemed perfectly comfortable relaying my preferences to the repairman in advance of his/her visitation.

It sounds like repairman has been forewarned to wear a mask like me and also this is the way it will go:
I will be able to stay safe and that I can accommodate the repairman in such a way as he/she will be able to test everything outside. I’ll have all the equipment outside , the power chord and network cord and router cords poking through edge ofsliding glass door running next to cable box located outside. He/she can plug in and test the modem right next to the outdoor box!

So you see I’ve communicated my preferences , I have plan and I am making it so the repairman can do everything he/she needs to do outside the home next to cable box…

… later tomorrow I’ll let you know how it goes in part two of staying safe and taking charge of your health and standing up for yourself and loved ones by using a safety mask!

(If you wanna protect yourself and loved ones and you wear masks and expect others to follow your lead then Don’t be meek or submissive about masking … take charge ,be accommodating and make it easy for others so you feel safe comfortable and plan for success in advance… communicate your preferences about masking  and be the boss in the mask!

Envision what you want to happen and rehearse it going over steps in advance .. know your limits and rehearse the boundaries you will take if challenged.. go over these things before the event takes place so you may stay safe in your mask and keep your loved ones safe .. rehearse for success and rehearse for possible failure.. above all you control your boundaries and remain safe!)

I’m goin the distance in the mask,
The Masked Man!

About Whooping Cough
By John Hopkin’s University

SUMMARY:
Whooping cough is caused by a bacterium called Bordetella pertussis. The illness is characterized by coughing spells that end with a characteristic "whoop" as air is inhaled. Whooping cough caused thousands of deaths in the 1930s and 1940s. With the advent of a vaccine, the death rate has declined dramatically. Pertussis vaccines are very effective. However, if pertussis is circulating in the community, there is a possibility that even a fully vaccinated person could catch the disease…

COMMENT:
One of the great benefits of proper masking with an N95 mask to help prevent covid is that masking helps prevent all airborne illnesses and airborne diseases such as whooping cough as well!

Herein lies the beauty of masking: The mask is like the all-in-one multifunctional Swiss Army knife of protection for airborne illness and disease: wear a mask and you’ve got most all your bases covered,

Mask for to prevent covid and you’ll be masking to prevent whooping cough, influenza, pneumonia, flu, avian flu, allergies, occupational airborne hazards, etc.
Mask to prevent  one airborne illness and you’ll be masking to prevent all of them! Now to get all that protection from a mask.. that’s some power, that’s a bargain, and that’s a good deal!,

The Masked Man

P.S.

“Long-term effects of whooping cough can include pneumonia, seizures, and brain damage, particularly in infants, and complications like broken ribs, hernias, and weight loss in older children and adults.”

.. to cough so hard you “break your ribs and have hernias”!? That’s not just coughing that’s dying! That’s some violent convulsive suffocating! I prefer masking to prevent this! I prefer masking in this day and age to prevent breathing in a multitude & slew of airborne hell & torture.

I’m not gambling that. I don’t care what the odds are, I mask because the stakes are too high.

COMMENT:
This is the county Masked Man lives in…
I highly recommend N95 masking as one of the ways to protect one another from this and other airborne illness in my county.

As a little girl, originally from Hungary during Hitler’s reign, My grandmother came to United States of America on a boat suffering from whooping cough. This disease was nearly eradicated until recent times. The fact that diseases like this are circulating nowadays is a scary sign of decline in the human condition.

Wear an n95 mask and I’ll be your friend in my county,

The Masked Man
Masked Resident of Watauga county, NC

P.S. in the article it mentions “The cases among vaccinated individuals have been milder, according to AppHealthCare.”
… to me, this means even vaccinated people are catching it and spreading it! I strongly suggest  N95 masking even though AppHealthCare fails to mention the medical merit and the advantages that the N95 safety mask has to offer.

I really can’t think of a single reason why one wouldn’t wear a mask around whooping cough or covid. That’s just no-brainer. There’s somebody coughing their head off obviously suffering and 0peoole in healthcare aren’t gonna recommend puting a mask on!? What’s that about? Masked man thinks this is reckless, unsafe, and quite frankly  stupid to say the very least. ??? Don’t breathe that sh*t in and don’t give it to your loved ones.

For those who take airborne illnesses seriously never belittle or fail to pay homage to the medical safety mask. The N95 mask is scientifically proven to greatly help prevent airborne illness and airborne diseases.

I do not sell masks nor do I have any commercial ties with masking… all I can say is please mask around people if you are serious (like me)about not getting an airborne illness and disease.

It’s ludicrous that healthcare facilities would fail to mention the N95 mask as a medically scientifically proven means of preventing catching and therefore preventing the spread of airborne illness and airborne disease. Shame on their omission. Why omit the fact that The n95 mask could save a lot of lives and save a lot of us from the torture of a disease!?

Wouldn’t it be more wise for a healthcare facility to say if you don’t wanna catch an airborne illness like whooping cough or you suspect you or someone you know has whooping cough, then don’t breathe on one another or breathe in the same air and wear masks to be on the safe side and make sure the healthcare facilitator also wears masks incase they catch it or spread it? It’s just not giving people all the facts by dismissing and omitting safety mask usage as a possible solution and perfectly viable and effective  means to prevent airborne illnesses and diseases. Is the n95 mask not recognized in the medical scientific world!? Is the safety mask for airborne illnesses and diseases not doctor approved!? Lol… What have doctors learned about masks and hygiene since 2020 or so..
…did we learn nothing about how to defend ourselves with masks even as a covid pandemic threatens our very wellbeing , health mortality and our very sanity!? Hey doc, Why not at least put in a good word for the mighty n95 mask that allows us more safely to enter the chambers of those who are being tortured by illness and and contagious?

Take it from Masked Nan 6 years now of masking and not a single airborne illness .. not a single sick day in six years… If you just don’t want to take extra chances on catching whooping cough, covid, or any of the multitude of viruses out there readily available to you by the public then the Masked Man highly recommends masking! :)

I asked grandma what it was like to see the Statue of Liberty for the first time. She replied she had whooping cough and not even seeing the Statue of Liberty feels good when you have whooping cough.

Just to stimulate thought and play the devil’s advocate here… It will be Interesting to compare this study with studies of toddlers and children who weren’t locked down and caught covid. It will further prove interesting to see what long term repercussions and long term impact the physical health and mental health truly are for children and toddlers who get infected and/ or get repeatedly infected with covid.

Not to dismiss these studies as important, I tend to think it’s hard to reverse the ill effects of a disease as compared to reversing the psychological  impacts or trauma of staying safe through through certain forms of strategic isolation or the stigma some of society society might inflict upon one another for taking precautions such as masking and not getting infected by disease …

…to me I’d rather choose dealing with the trauma of having protected my loved ones from getting the disease in the first place rather than to have to deal with the trauma of my kid actually having to deal long covid.

Time will tell as these studies persist and continue.

A mask a day keeps the doctor away,
The Masked Man

P.S. school itself actually caused me me a great deal of grief and trauma as a child.. I am somewhat of an advocate of homeschooling especially during pandemics. I believe in education but I also envision a lot of change and reform that could make public schools a lot better!

There were after school fistfights held by children for children at my school.. children can be cruel.. it was like “lord of the flies”..
.. gotta say at my school there was lots of battles with self esteem and in later years of schooling plenty of peer pressure to use drugs alcohol and tobacco..  nothing was more traumatizing than bringing a report card home for many of us.

Regardless , I wouldn’t feel too guilty for isolating your kid from catching covid which might prove to carry many long term health repercussions.. you may have saved your kid from early onset dementia or something …  don’t feel guilty for taking precautions protecting yourself or loved ones from a disease! Better safe than sorry when it comes to viruses that may prove less forgiving than we previously thought.

Is it ‘traumatic’ defending yourself from a disease!? I suppose it is a traumatic experience to defend oneself or one’s family from a disease that can maim, kill, and give people disabilities. Those are the times we live in. To me it’s worth the trauma and the trouble of defending yourself and your loved ones from a disease.

To me it was traumatic watching on the news all the funeral pyres in India and all the bodies killed by the delta variant. All that crying and all those tears and the smoking bodies! Hordes of people carrying the dead around on their backs …That was traumatic .. made ‘isolation’ sound like a vacation and a paradise only for the highly privileged. For If I am not incorrect the body count and lack of places to have funerals for covid victims was happening in India when the “lockdowns “ were taking place for the British schoolchildren.

SUMMARY - A new study by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, has found that patients with Long Covid experience symptoms up to four years after their initial infection. Shortness of breath after routine or moderate activity, for instance, persisted three years after Covid infection, while some patients experienced abdominal pain, indigestion, or constipation even at the four-year mark, the researchers said, describing their findings in the Journal of Infection and Public Health.

.. and evidently that is per bout of covid ("after their initial infection"). in other words, does the study take into account how many times the subject was infected? Yikes! Is that just from one infection!?

Long COVID and the brain: Global study links infection to memory loss, higher dementia risk in seniors

Shared By: Claire Kowalick
February 11, 2025 UT health San Antonio

SUMMARY:
Five years after the height of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic, scientists are beginning to unveil the infection’s potential long-term effects on the brain. We now know that following an acute COVID-19 infection, between 10% and 35% of people suffer from lingering effects called long COVID. For some people, these effects can be mild and short-lived, but for others, there may be lasting issues that may trigger a chain reaction of cognitive impairment.Long COVID is a condition following an acute infection of COVID-19 with symptoms lasting a few weeks to several months. Its effects vary from person to person and there are more than 200 reported symptoms. Common symptoms include extreme fatigue, memory problems or “brain fog,” lightheadedness and smell or taste impairment. Along with these symptoms, scientists conjectured that other long COVID effects might impact older people differently.

COMMENT:
In a relatively short time of five or six years many of us have seen firsthand people in the public eye catching covid and then exhibiting symptoms of appearing disoriented with memory loss, and brain fog... these studies are only confirming what we laypersons are observing and suspecting. The public has seen what appears to be some early onset dementia and brain fog occurring a lot since covid began.. and not just in 'really old' seniors. There are many studies besides this one that seem to point the seriousness of these long term repercussions of covid for the elderly as well as some of the not so elderly. And keep in mind this is the first five years of studying... who knows what another five years on top of these last five years shall bring!?

10, 20, 30, etc years from now People may discover problems popping up  from having had caught covid. My grandfather's malaria was like that .. he had problems such as really bad arthritis and he was immunocompromised that popped up decades later as an older man because of the kind of  malaria he had caught in WW2 when he was young. Young people should consider that they don't know for sure what even a mild covid case will do to them 20-50 years from now.

What my grandfather caught when he was in his mere twenties started whupping up on him when he hit 50, 60, and 70 years old.. The doctor said it was the malaria he got when he was a mere pup! Its why I mask.. I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of  longterm repercussions even from  mild cases..

This is an important study and also somewhere in this forum I read a study that stated some people developed long covid who were totally asymptomatic and had mild cases of covid.

In other words its only been 5 or 6 years now..we don't know what having caught covid will do to a youngster when he turns fifty .. only time will tell if the so-called 'mild' covid cases do damage to people 10-50 years down the road.

Don't forget to mask,
The Masked Man

P.S.
I recently saw a story of some guy (on a YouTube show called "soft white underbellies") who was probably in his twenties who had caught covid and the doctor actually said to the guy he had early onset dementia from covid.. then later the doctor changed the diagnosis from early onset dementia to whatever football players or boxers get who suffer from massive hits to the head over and over.

While we hope people have fully recovered from 'mild cases' of covid we simply don't know if a generation of 20-30 year olds who think they are tough and keep catching covid over and over won't end up with dementia by the time they are 50. Only time will tell that. Its not looking good because if older people are more likely to get dementia from covid then it stands to reason younger people are also more prone to eventually succumb to the same thing as they too grow older. It just stands to reason: If something is intrinsically not good for older people then its probably not intrinsically good for younger ones either! Somethings are not good even in moderation.. methinks covid is not good even in moderation.

The younger ones might get hit with dementia sooner in life if they keep catching covid over and over simply because the younger have more years to catch many cases of covid. Think ten years from now we don't know what happens to people who catch 'mild' covid twice a year for ten years straight. we are only on the fifth and sixth years and counting. We might have tons of 50 year old dementia victims ahead of us currently in the making, for all we know.

I say this because I don't want us to underestimate how bad even a 'mild' case of covid might be or prove to be and I wanna give young people and incentive to not catch covid thinking covid won't hurt young people. I wanna see more people mask like myself...

...Just a reminder of at least two of the mistakes being made,
1)in the beginning the typical medical news and announcement failed us and still fall short of even alerting to the public that 'long covid' or long term repercussions from covid exist.  The typical public medical covid news ya see on the big networks such as ABC or CBS never warn people about 'long covid an how serious it is even to this day its like a lot of people are in denial.
2) myths like 'covid only hurts really old people and doesn't harm tough little children' seems to be pushed by some media and common news when in fact many studies have come to surface giving us data at how much damage covid has really done to children. Children suffer horrible long term repercussions from having gotten covid.

...Now for new scary possibility: What if "Longer Covid" exists?  Long covid exists so what about even longer term repercussions? ..something equivalent to the term "Longer Covid" which would be like maybe young people  that gets covid might get dementia in life and sooner in life than those that don't get covid...maybe people who get covid or many bouts of covid open themselves up to dementia later on in life... they might develop a predisposition or a predisposition for it makes way or becomes enabled through covid ... some weird diseases are like that in which a person gets a disease and symptoms or something inside them lay dormant often for years.. a person has an illness and its true symptoms only emerge a couple decades later

... I'm not saying this is true but there is a likelihood of problems in the long term future considering how most people failed to have foreseen 'long covid' and have underestimated 'long covid' by a long shot. Furthermore people underestimated how bad it is for a young child to get covid.

..its just something to think about. Its good to know what we don't know..its good to think about things we can't be certain about... some things only time can tell for sure. Some things can only be proven by time.

Not to scare anybody but the real reason I mention these things is to encourage people to take precautions and Mask up so that I may thrive amongst a healthier masked generation or two! Try to prevent covid. Even a 'mild' case of covid might prove deadly in the long haul.

I'd like to have some masked friends out there that protect themselves! There's not enough people masking out there.'

14
Just got back from the regular MD consisting of a consultation with my loved one and MD so that she can get a referral for gall bladder surgery.

Lemme tell ya man .. one receptionist had a mask on and that was all I saw of masked people. None of the people going there for checkup or who were ill were masking.. that's for sure. To me It's nasty. It disgusts me. Defend yourselves and mask up! duh! Especially around sick people and when caring for sick people!

We were masked of course and then I just said in the most timid meek nicest voice as possible "We prefer you wear a mask.. if that's okay!?" I have a real deep voice so I toned it down so it felt like I was almost begging. The nurse agreed and stuck her mask on .... we were in a super stuffy room..

Right after the nurse took some vitals and was leaving I made another official request to have her tell the doctor to mask before he entered and she did..
...whew ...The doctor actually put a mask on even though he didn't have one on in the hallway ... I sprayed the place with 91 percent rubbing alcohol when nobody was looking ...

...I literally stood by and blocked the door ready to square up with anybody that even tried to enter our room maskless. I was literally going to stick my masked face into their maskless face and simply repeat "we prefer you mask" over and over no matter what until they obeyed.

In my perspective , as the ever faithful Masked Man who hasn't had a single airborne illness since 2020 because of masking thinks: These unmasked people at medical facilities are crazy! People just don't have any respect for viruses. Its nuts ... its a microscopic entity and you just know people spread viruses in these medical facilities ...

I'm home now everything went into wash... took mask off right before showering ... sprayed everything like shoes and every object that was there with rubbing alcohol...

This was a terrifying day to little old masked man...Its terrifying to someone like me that doesn't take chances with getting sick or making my 77 year old loved one sick. Today I faced or rather masked for my worst enemy" a place where sick maskless people gather... A medical facility!

I guess soon she has to have surgery and that's got me nervous too because her cousin got covid during his stay at a hospital and then passed away from covid complications. So I'll tell the surgeon all about my rational fears and how I want everybody masked and I'll have to guard her and myself.

I'm not wimpy.. I'm tough.. I can bicycle 7 miles straight in a mask, I lift some weights, I can work a little on a roof (I do it masked).. Ive stared down some mean dogs in my time even had guys flashing knives at me in my life but I just weigh the odds and simply know I'm no match for microscopic entities such viruses..That's the one thing I can't beat... viruses kick my butt! When I get sick I'm beat and whipped. For me viruses always win. When I used to go unmasked and get sick I always prayed for it to be over. I hate long term suffering that getting sick brings.

I just never underestimate or belittle the true nature of insidious airborne illnesses , airborne viruses, and airborne diseases! They are so small and sticky .. you can't see 'em and they will torture you, give ya long term health problems  and kill people too. I can't stand a fever I can't stand a headache or an ear infection etc. A virus is torture incarnate!

Anyway message to readers is to stand up for your masks and  don't be afraid to tell an unmasked nurse or unmasked doctor you "prefer" they wear a mask!,
The Masked Man

P.S. We  probably are fine from today's Doctor's (we wore N95 masks during visit and kept masks on way home in car (incase of surface contamination on our clothes or from our hair was infectious) and then we threw clothes in wash and took showers but ya never know for sure because of surface contamination and you just never know if you don't happen to be carrying an electron microscope with ya.

If you are a caretaker and you love yourself and you love who you are bringing into a medical facility, you keep you masks on and stand up for yourselves and make medical professionals who come up to you mask for you! Don't be wimpy about it! That's your life brothers and sisters! Mask up!

That nurse and that doctor didn't have any masks on till I voiced my preferences and requests several times! You masked people out there make your voice heard make your preferences known, set your personal boundaries, and make those nurses and doctors mask before they get in your masked face or touch ya! Don't let 'em breathe on ya!
