SUMMARY - A former North Carolina Sheriff’s Office deputy, his wife, and two adult sons pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of North Carolina. They submitting false loan applications, which resulted in them getting $542,288 in COVID loan proceeds. Each of them will face a maximum term of 30 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine when sentenced later this year. They will also be ordered to pay a Forfeiture Money Judgement of $542,288. SUMMARY - Former St. Louis lawyer and former Republican Missouri House Speaker John J. Diehl Jr. was sentenced Monday in federal court in St. Louis to 21 months in prison and fined $50,000 after pleading guilty to wire fraud for misusing $379,900 in federal COVID-19 relief loans intended to help small businesses during the pandemic. NOTE - Diehl's resignation from politics is not elaborated upon in the article and some may misappropriate the resignation with the Covid-19 relief loan. Instead, he resigned from office due a prior scandal unrelated to his Covid-19 relief fund activities. SUMMARY - A nasal spray developed by Stanford Medicine has been successfully tested on mice to see if it would protect against Covid-19 and other diseases. It provided protection for several months. COMMENTARY - This treatment is, at best, years away. Note the emphasis 'on mice' in the above summary. However, some progress is always better than no progress at all.
