SUMMARY - While the U.S. is coming to terms with Covid variant EG.5, a new Covid variant (currently dubbed BA.6) has begun to make it's presence felt in the United Kingdom (U.K.). It is believed to have over 30 mutations in it's spike protein. BA.6 has already been detected in Denmark and Israel. It is too soon to tell how deadly or infectious BA.6 is in comparison to the current dominant Covid strain in the U.K., EG.5.1.
NOTE - When this post was first written on August 15, 2023, the strain in question was being called "BA.6." It has since been reclassified as "BA.2.86."
