The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) said Mission Hospital has been placed on Immediate Jeopardy.

The twins were left in an open waiting room for 30 minutes before being moved to a 12 patient care area without isolation precautions."

COMMENT,
..I believe your anger and concern is justified, Data. I think acknowledging the past is key in understanding and modifying today's systems for today's times. I am often upset with society's systems and customs that don't modify their systems in a way that protects people... there are more viruses going around so it seems there should be more precautions being taken in the systems. Ever since 9/11 airports adopted new security measures and have stuck with them insofar as I know while have doctor's offices changed their offices and healthcare facilities to reflect what has happened since covid and a surplus of other viruses such as measles outbreaks have entered the picture!? No they haven't adapted or modified. Same goes for all gatherings. What other than hand soap dispensers are located on side of busy maskless receptionists offices are there to encourage people to take precautions?
What we have done and how we respond with as a whole since covid and measles outbreaks doesn't reflect or match up to what has happened. We respond to terrorism attacks but not virus attacks... Its like wrestling we are outmatched in size strength and number with viruses compared to the past in pre 2019 days. If we don't modify and adapt to what has happened since covid and measles outbreaks how are we going to survive physical and economically if and when other even more vicious outbreaks come?
I'm 55 and I couldn't deal with being a kid right now ..the kind of pressure to attend schools and gatherings.. imagine wondering if you are going to give covid or measles to your folks.. that would would be horrible at any age to have to worry about with society's pressures to act as if viruses aren't worse in this era in the face of all these current virus outbreaks. So glad I am old enough to say I can wear a mask and don't have to go to school! Since we live in an era where covid outbreaks strike, why not act like it!?
All I know is that ever since 2020 I prefer to live as if a virus could make me ill and suffer so I have modified behavior to reflect my beliefs that virus outbreaks are very real and pose a threat to me. Just like falling off a bicycle poses a threat to the head I wear a bicycle helmet is in the same lines as to why I wear a mask... I wear a mask because I had a respiratory disease as a child .. I wear a mask because I deem covid and other viruses dangerous for me. I simply modify my behavior and wear mask and take precautions like a game of chess to defend myself the best way I see fit. I know what could get me and hit me the hardest so I mask.
Pretty scary stuff it's like nature put a gun in everybody hands only instead its a virus that was put in everybody's face and now we as individuals have a license to inflict illness and disease upon each other... that's why I mask. I trust the virus inflicts some serious damage. I see it this way Manny animals aren't as lucky as us human's are in the sense that many animals don't have the ability to wear masks. To me that is what separates the victim from the surviver...
.. the other animals don't have the ability to for-see the danger, modify behavior and take precautions such as masking that I do. Think I'm overreacting think again ..they never had anything such as "quad-epidemics" when I was a kid.. that's when four viruses are circulating at hospitals after Mardi Era in 2026..one doctor seeing 50 sixty patients a day.. what is that like aq patient and exposure to four diseases every ten minutes? Figure that math out.. Any a quadric is four viruses at the same time against one guy .. me! You never heard of "quad-epidemics" when I grew up which is why I mask nowadays. I seriously question if it isn't suicidal, more than reckless, downright negligible and masochistic and sado masochistic to be maskless in a healthcare setting(or any setting fir that matter) during a 'quademic'. I'm simply keeping up with the times and science by masking and taking precautions. When I mask I'm thinking about me!
Even if I am wrong, I'm safer for masking and that is all that counts.
I'd rather be guilty "to err on the side of caution" , and to have masked for nothing,
The Masked Man

15 in NC have had measles this winter; 1 in hospital
State data shows all but one of the people who got measles in North Carolina this winter were under the age of 17. Seventy-four percent of them had not been vaccinated.
February 4, 2026.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said one person is now in the hospital with measles.
This is the state's first reported hospitalization. The department did not provide information about where the person is hospitalized.
The NCDHHS dashboard LINK:
https://www.dph.ncdhhs.gov/programs/epidemiology/communicable-disease/infectious-respiratory-diseases/measles-rubeola/measles-cases-and-outbreaks-north-carolina
State data shows all but one of the people who got measles in North Carolina this winter were under the age of 17. 74% of them had not been vaccinated, and local health leaders said more cases are expected.
"When South Carolina got its first cases, we all said it was just a matter of time, a matter of not if but when we will get cases,” said Dr. David Wohl, a professor of medicine and co-principal investigator of the Global UNC Infectious Diseases Clinical Trials unit.
Wohl said the rise in cases is due to under-vaccination.

Measles Exposure at Sky Harbor International Airport
Public Health Posted on February 09, 2026
The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has been notified that a non-county resident infectious with measles traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on January 29. MCDPH is working with federal, state, and airport officials to notify travelers who may have been exposed.
“As measles outbreaks continue nationally and in Arizona, including in Maricopa County, identifying and sharing information about exposures remains an important part of routine public health efforts,” said Dr. Nick Staab, chief medical officer at MCDPH. “Measles is highly contagious and can spread quickly in communities without timely prevention and response.”
The total number of confirmed measles cases among Maricopa County residents this year remains at three.
Active public exposure sites
MCDPH publishes a cumulative list of public exposure sites
https://www.maricopa.gov/2835/Measles#exposures
so residents can view all locations where measles exposure may have occurred during the symptom watch period. The table below includes the newly identified location and all other active exposure sites. Listed exposure times include an additional two hours after the infected person left the location, when the measles virus can remain in the air.

Texas ICE center
A public health emergency': doctors sound alarm on measles outbreak at Texas ICE center
Nancy M. Preyor-Johnson
Mon, February 2, 2026 at 5:20 PM EST
SUMMARY:
Warning of a potential public health crisis, physicians at UT Health San Antonio are calling for an urgent, coordinated effort to contain a measles outbreak at a federal immigrant detention center in South Texas.
Two cases of measles have been confirmed at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, 70 miles southwest of San Antonio.
The discovery has raised concern because detainees, staff and contractors move in and out of the facility routinely and because some families were released or transferred shortly before or after the outbreak was disclosed on Sunday. Measles is highly contagious and poses a special risk to infants and young children who have not been vaccinated.
In a letter to the state's top health official, Dr. Lee C. Rogers, chief of podiatric medicine and surgery at UT Health San Antonio, called for "an immediate, unified command-and-control of the measles outbreak."
The letter, addressed to Dr. Jennifer Shuford, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, bore the heading: "Public Health Emergency: The measles outbreak at Dilley Detention Center will become an epidemic if we don't act immediately."
"This is a public health emergency," Rogers wrote. "This is not a law enforcement issue." He wrote that in a detention center, where people live in close contact and breathe the same air, "everyone has to be presumed exposed." He said that releases or transfers of detainees during an outbreak could spread the virus beyond South Texas.
LINK:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/public-health-emergency-doctors-sound-222009241.html
P.S.
"Rogers said he was speaking out even though infectious diseases are not his specialty because he believed other physicians would be reluctant to do so.
UT Health officials said Rogers was voicing his own views and was not speaking on behalf of the institution."
COMMENT: I'm with Rogers!.. of course releases or transfers of detainees/people during an outbreak will spread the virus beyond South Texas and not only that this is unethical and immoral to not treat and prevent illnesses amongst detainees.
My grandfather was in WW2 and he said his own prisoners of war tried to nurse him when he caught malaria. We are all in the same boat when it comes to contagious illnesses...
..."In World War II, American soldiers generally treated German and Italian prisoners of war (POWs) well,
often adhering to Geneva Convention standards, providing good food, medical care, and, in the U.S., opportunities for labor, education, and recreation(there were exceptions but the overall trend was positive)" Regardless more measles equals more measles for everybody therefore...
I say disease and illness is the common enemy.
When it comes to contagious illness,
What goes around comes around.
"the measles virus can and does mutate, just like other single-stranded RNA viruses (such as influenza or COVID-19). However, unlike those viruses, measles mutations rarely lead to new variants that can escape the immune protection provided by the measles vaccine"..
...the keyword here is rarely. ..That being said it only stands to reason that if the more measles circulates amongst masses of people that might greaten the chance of mutation and make make a rare instance happen as rare as that might be. Just because something is rare doesn't mean it can't or won't happen. Its certainly is not something I'd play around with . I don't gamble on such things personally. With my luck, something 'rare' might happen. I don't like relying on luck...I like a sure thing.
I'd rather be a 'no-risk' kind of guy than a 'low risk' one,
The Masked Man
Here is an overview of The Geneva Conventions which I think ( although it would be argued that ICE operates in a domestic, law enforcement context, not a state of war, making the Conventions inapplicable to immigration detentions and deportations...that being said ..I see elements of war involved such as armed conflict, war tactics by a somewhat militaristic coop are involved and so I am led to believe the Geneva the Geneva Conventions should apply to this Texas ICE center and all ICE facilities for that matter
which is a public health emergency...
"The Geneva Conventions establish rules for humanitarian treatment in armed conflict, protecting those not fighting (civilians, medics, wounded, POWs) by prohibiting torture, willful killing, and attacks on non-combatants, while mandating humane care, proper housing, and medical attention for captives, ensuring a baseline of dignity and preventing unnecessary suffering even in war. Key rules cover the humane treatment of POWs (name, rank, serial number only), protection of medical personnel, and restrictions on warfare methods to avoid superfluous injury.
Core Rules & Protections
Humane Treatment: All protected persons (wounded, sick, POWs, civilians) must be treated humanely, without discrimination.
No Torture: Torture, cruel treatment, and willful killing are strictly forbidden.
Medical Care: Wounded and sick soldiers, medical personnel, and facilities are protected and must receive care.
Prisoners of War (POWs): Must be given humane conditions, adequate food, shelter, clothing, and medical care; they only need to give their name, rank, and serial number.
Civilians: Protected from attacks, displacement, and harsh treatment, especially in occupied territories.
Medical & Aid Personnel: Protected, and their emblems (Red Cross, Red Crescent) respected.
Prohibited Warfare Methods: Attacks causing unnecessary suffering or using perfidy (deception) are banned.
The Four Conventions (1949)
Convention I: Protects wounded and sick soldiers on land.
Convention II: Extends protections to wounded, sick, and shipwrecked military personnel at sea.
Convention III: Governs the treatment of Prisoners of War (POWs).
Convention IV: Protects civilians, including those in occupied territory.
Additional Protocols (1977)
Strengthened protections, clarifying rules for international conflicts (Protocol I) and non-international conflicts (Protocol II).
Emphasize limiting methods of warfare and protecting civilians further.
Key Takeaway
The Geneva Conventions establish the baseline of humanity in war, ensuring that even during conflict, fundamental rights are respected for those who cannot or are not participating in hostilities, aiming to limit barbarity and preserve human dignity."
Also there's Amnesty International https://www.amnesty.org/en/
COMMENT:
Dr. Lee C. Rogers, chief of podiatric medicine and surgery at UT Health San Antonio is simply following the The Geneva Conventions when he is calls "for an urgent, coordinated effort to contain a measles outbreak at a federal immigrant detention center in South Texas".
.. depending on the political climate and how it shifts there could be a lot of people going to prison for warcrimes in the nearby future. The US is still part of the Geneva Conventions. At this stage nothing would surprise me if some of the bigwigs won't be accused of warcrimes or something akin to warcrimes considering what has already transpired...
...Not everybody's conduct has been estimable.. if you know what I mean..There's always a fly in the ointment but the strife and internal chaos in the US is way too apparent and there has definitely been some signs of internal strife in the US... Internal strife refers to intense, often violent, conflict and discord within a group, organization, or nation—such as civil war, rebellion, or political upheaval. It represents a breakdown of unity, causing instability, and can be driven by political, social, or economic factors...
It just follows naturally there are often ramifications that eventually occur with people and factions that make radical political decisions in such a way that creates internal strife... Let's put it this way It's simply prudent and a good investment to follow the Geneva Conventions whether we are religious or not. We stand to gain more by following the Geneva Conventions than by not following the Geneva Conventions.
Evidently ICES actions are covered by laws of war and the Geneva Conventions doesn't apply to ICE so far anyway
Supposedly Applicable Laws apply to ICE:such as ICE is bound by U.S. Constitutional law (due process, 4th/5th Amendments) and domestic statutes.
Human Rights Context: While not covered by the laws of war (Geneva), detainees are supposed to be protected by international human rights laws, such as those prohibiting torture or cruel treatment.
I however perhaps due to my naivety and simpleminded approach feel the Geneva Conventions as well as the Ten Commandments should play a part in everyone's life when dealing with armed conflict and detainment. To me it appears like ICE is using some elements of military tactics so that's why I think the Geneva Conventions are worthy of mention here.
There’s also the question of deploying troops in an insurrection act once again implying and indicating to me that that ICE is a military operation especially if is troops are rallied to support its cause. But what do I know .. I am not a positional nor judicial expert.. I am but a mere philosopher exploring the ethics and lack of reasoning behind not treating measles in a facility designed to hold captive detainees/ people .
Sanity and grace,
The Masked Man
P.S. yet another point in case to consider is whether or not other countries perceive ICE as a militia . We have ICE stationed on other countries for example during the Olympics and it does have a bearing how America is perceived by other countries does it not? America's welfare is at stake. All I am saying is Simply read Machiavelli's the Prince and one will quickly see it is quite complicated and one has to be quite strategic to rule countries in the long run regardless of your morals and ethics.. one ,one must be prudent with factions. I am merely noting the complications of procedure and am not stating right or wrong or the particulars of politics. That being said prudence is involved in using factions and ruling or persuading a people or nations is all I am pointing out.
Side Comment UPDATE:
At Winter Olympics, protest over cost and ICE ends in clash with police
After left-wing groups rallied against the cost and environmental impact of the Winter Games in Italy, some protesters set off fireworks and hurled bottles.

..there ya go.. other countries perceiving ICE as a militia! ..not my fault you can't control groups of people who make up their own minds ..I'm just an observer...
So silly If I say the wrong thing about how to win and influence people or about stratagy in the face of illnesses and viruses I could be hounded like Pete Seeger was for being accused of being a communist.. I suppose I haven't offended any republicans, democrats, or patriotic people in my comments or views ..lol.. we sort of live in a 'red scare' ! lol.. regardless I just like the Geneva Conventions.. seems to make sense and apply to detainees and guards as well a well as citizens. It just makes sense. I'm just thinking for medical Hippocratic humanitarian reason in this post not politically.
