SUMMARY - A study from the University of Manchester has found that severe viral infections, such as from influenza or Covid-19, has the chance to cause a structure inside of the lung called a 'basement membrane' to remain damaged even after the virus is gone. The damage is cumulative over time and caused by inflammation.
