SUMMARY - The American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) is advocating for media to stop referring to the disease that is affecting cattle as "Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza" (HPAI) and instead use the term "Bovine Influenza-A Virus" (BIAV). The group cites that, unlike HPAI, the cattle are recovering from the disease and do not need to be euthanized like poultry. Also, they cite that although the disease may have started out as HPAI, it may have evolved beyond what would still be considered HPAI in that disease transmission is no longer necessarily from wild birds but also through milking equipment. Cattle movement restrictions are currently in place for 18 states.
