The MV Hondius Hantavirus Outbreak

An outbreak of Hantavirus has been confirmed on The MV Hondius cruise ship. So far there have been 7 suspected cases with this outbreak and 2 of those suspected cases have been confirmed as positive for Hantavirus. So far there have been 3 deaths with this virus outbreak. 2 of the deaths were a Dutch husband and wife and the 3rd was a German passenger. 1 of the passengers who died did die in a hospital.

The World Health organization is suspecting that the Virus could be spreading through close human contact meaning there could be human to human transmission occurring. Human transmission of this virus is uncommon however the Andes virus which is a form of Hantavirus has caused human to human transmission in past outbreaks.

UN health agency tracing over 80 people on flight taken by hantavirus victim.
I must add this comment. It can take several weeks for symptoms to appear. This is something we will have to monitor very closely.
