‘Communicable illnesses’ cancel 1st Shelby council meeting of 2026

SHELBY — Lawmakers in Shelby will not meet Monday night.

Slated as Shelby City Council’s first gathering of 2026, the meeting was cancelled on Monday afternoon. Stacey Gunder, an administrative assistant for the city, emailed the public notice around 3:15 p.m.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances in an environment of active communicable illnesses, the Shelby City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. this evening (Monday) is cancelled,” the notice said.

(While not really a performance cancellation or ill performer I will  post this public meeting here that was cancelled here because it is an important meeting that involves performing arts in that this organization  has a bearing on  reporting & preventing illness in the community held amongst some prominent important people who play an important part in our community)

The Artists Cave will be closed this week. Some family members are displaying flu symptoms and we don't want to spread any of the yuckiness.

In-Person Family Art Workshop

The Family Art Workshop scheduled for this weekend has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
Even though we won’t be gathering in person, we encourage you to continue the fun at home! Feel free to create your own Paper Plate Snow Globes using materials you have on hand and follow along with our video posted on YouTube. It’s a great way to keep the creativity going as a family.

NASA cancels spacewalk due to medical issue, may bring the crew back early

SUMMARY:
NASA canceled its first spacewalk of the year and may bring its crew back early from the International Space Station due to an onboard medical issue.

The spacewalk was supposed to happen on Thursday, but was postponed because of an unspecified medical concern with an astronaut, who was not identified, the space agency said.

NASA said the crew member is now stable, but it’s “actively evaluating all options” including an early end to the mission.

“Safely conducting our missions is our highest priority,” said NASA spokesperson Cheryl Warner in a statement.

Here’s just a small list of meetings cancelled “Due to Lack of quorum” 

COMMENT:
I am speculating if anytime we see “Lack of quorum” that we can more than likely assume the event was cancelled due to illness.

Society has a hard time admitting when they are sick and so that is why I think they will adopt this ‘lack of quorum’ phrase in the face of their denial of illness and when outbreaks occurring.

Methinks society has a hard time admitting they are ill and in a state of weakness. In the past militaries often never revealed when they were ill out of fear they would be regarded as weak. Societies and the community at large also have a hard time not denying and not downplaying the true state of their condition when they are ill…

I challenge and invite The reader to call and determine what the true causes are for “the lack of quorum”  and determine if most cancellations are due to illness  as I suspect they often are.. that is of course if the agency will even admit to outbreaks of illness.

To my recollection we have rarely used the phrase “due to lack of quorum” as often as I currently see in these post pandemic days…

following is just one day of a page of random list of events cancelled due to “lack of quorum” that I googled… I must say by googling “cancelled due to lack of quorum” one gets a lot more hits than googling “cancelled due to illness” .

.. the following list is too exhausting and numerous for me to personally determine true causes of "lack of quorum" but it is worth analyzing to see if this daily "lack of quorum" corresponds and matches rates of illness data in that area.

Why would so many events be cancelled and what are the odds of this not being due illness given the data of event might correspond exactly when times of current flu outbreaks are occuring?

..  they don’t state why there is a lack of quorum… so again this lack of attendance could be due to a number of causes however I highly suspect and have reason to believe simply based on general observance of human behavior that a good portion could be due to illness… I encourage the reader to determine cause of lack of quorum for themselves…

The 2026 Spalding Flower Parade

has been cancelled, its organising committee has said.
It blamed financial pressures and illness among the team who plan the annual event.
