Seventh Human Case of H10N3 Detected

Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection (CHP) reported two new human cases of H9N2 avian influenza infection from mainland China, with symptom onset in late December 2025 and mid-January 2026.

COMMENT: Gotta ask how are hospitals going to distinguish somebody immediately that has avian influenza from influenza B that is going on right now? Will the doctors and nurses as well as people in waiting rooms  have their masks on while doing these tests or visiting  on somebody that haphazardly at random just enters a hospital with avian flu?

How can exposure to someone who might have avian flu with all these sick & dead birds and influenza B that is currently going on at same time everywhere not be of "public concern"?

This is from 2025 so I need to remove this. Please be carefull to check for dates.

A human case of avian influenza A(H9N2) infection in a returning traveller from a non-European country where the virus has previously been identified in birds, has been reported in the Lombardy region of Italy. This is the first human case of avian influenza A(H9N2) reported in the EU/EEA.

The patient has co-existing medical conditions and is currently in hospital isolation, receiving medical treatment. Italian public health authorities performed contact tracing as a precaution to identify and control possible onward transmission and initiated several epidemiological and microbiological investigations.

Italy tracks first European human H9N2 avian flu case

"The Italian Ministry of Health has confirmed Europe’s first human case of low-pathogenicity avian  influenza A(H9N2), in a person from the Lombardy region.

The patient is hospitalized, and was described as being in poor health prior to infection. The patient also came from a non-European country, but it is not clear if he or she was an Italian traveler or a foreign visitor to Italy.

People can contract H9N2 through direct exposure to infected poultry or via contaminated animal environments. Human-to-human transmission has yet to be reported, and human cases typically result in mild illness..."

Taiwan CDC: Human Infection with a Novel H7 Avian Virus

Taiwan's first detection of a locally acquired human H7 LPAI infection in a poultry farmer.

While the patient raises poultry, none of his birds have tested positive for the H7 virus.  Movement of his birds has been halted, however, and agricultural authorities are now expanding their testing to nearby farms.

The source of this man's infection remains under investigation

Imaging examination revealed pneumonia. Based on clinical symptoms, test results, and the patient's contact history, the doctor reported the case as a novel H7 avian influenza..."

Taiwan reports first domestic H7 avian flu case
Officials say infection appears isolated with no signs of wider spread as source remains under investigation

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control on Thursday reported the country’s first domestic case of novel H7 avian influenza, involving a poultry worker in his 70s in Changhua.

COMMENT:"...He developed symptoms of runny nose, cough, and body aches on March 20th and sought medical attention at a hospital on March 22nd due to fever. He was admitted to the hospital on the same day..." I can't help but comment that seems like how it all goes down... people get sick for a couple days before medical measures are taken.. that's just the nature of the beast when it comes to viruses...that two day window of opportunity for a virus almost seems inevitable.

Anyway I can see it now so many farmers so many workers worldwide: That two days of them coming down with symptoms is probably the average contagious time and exposure so if this thing ever jumps human to human that's the way it will probably go down. 

Keep in mind the birds don't have to show symptoms.. (these fowl don't have to show symptoms of illness to spread avian virus) ... so now you got farmers and workers maybe not masking around what they think are perfectly healthy chickens who might be just beginning to spread the virus behaving perfectly healthy unbeknownst to unsuspecting farmers and workers....

What isn't told enough to people..
"chickens can be infected with avian influenza (bird flu) without showing any symptoms, particularly with Low Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (LPAI) strains. These birds can still shed the virus, spreading it to other birds, or it may suddenly transition to a more severe form."

Just the idea that some farmers, workers, veterinarians, people into animal husbandry might be saying amongst themselves that they aren't going to mask or use eye protection, or take extra measures in advance to prevent airborne illness and airborne diseases until they see that their flock or herd of animals are actually showing signs of sickness or illness seems very presumptuous and precarious to me. To me. That's just why viruses are so successful... they get at least a two day opportunity and lead to spread without anybody knowing or suspecting.

Yet another way these cases are often downplayed is the mention that the patient may have weakened immune symptoms or underlying medical problems... ..That just makes it worse for everybody!...We shouldn't be relieved that the patient of of bird flu probably just had a weakened immune system because now the virus just has all the more  opportunity to evolve more into a human to human worldwide pandemic. Some viruses don't just kill off the weak, they feed off opportunity, evolve and mutate which is all the more reason we should protect those susceptible to viruses.. because what goes around comes around.

Again I must address the clauses and little remarks within so many articles about how these are simply isolated cases and the public need not be concerned...  I can't stand it when articles indicate we shouldn't be publicly concerned... what's the point of the news if it isn't of public concern? Of course we should be publicly concerned. Of course we want notification of these events so that those of us who want to can act or modify our behavior in advance so we can be strategic and seek means of preventative measures such as masking. The whole point of knowing or being informed is  as to empower us in that we can modify our behavior or adapt. Avian flu has practically taken some species off the map.. yeah each and every human case of avian flu is highly concerning! These creatures aren't walking around with warning labels on them. Avian flu has destroyed and devastated so many species , flocks and herds that this is serious. Not to disappoint the fatalists out there but It would be highly insensitive, downright suspicious, and incredulous for the public to not be concerned. Any living breathing thing would but tremble at the sheer numbers and masses of fallen creatures before us.

But don't take my word for it ...simply study the following data to get an inkling of the sheer ever growing yet incomplete number and magnitude avian flu has reigned thus far:

.. The press has no right telling you how to feel or if you should be concerned in the face of all these dead animals .. public health officials have no right telling us whether to be concerned because the cases of these dead creatures and the sheer volume of death speaks for themselves. think about how many creatures have passed away... nobody can even count that high in their heads ...You are as are as free as a bird in regards to care & concerns... Don't let anybody tell you whether or not you should be concerned about vast numbers of creatures dying with disease before you...argue with those facts and figures and then you the public decide whether to take care or be concerned or not.

My mask is on and I believe have resources in some sense and the inner strength to help and be supourtive of other maskers.. That's all I know.
I am an animal lover and so I am publicly concerned enough to go out on a line and suggest n95 masks as a great tool for health and to help prevent airborne illness and airborne diseases.. and I extend my invitation to farmers, animal husbandry workers, and veterinarians and animal service people to mask to lessen the risks of zoonotic diseases and believe we have much to learn.

UK: Bird flu identified at Lincs duck farm.

"H5N1 HPAI has been confirmed in a commercial duck breeding flock at a premises near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone was declared around the site on 11 April."

Whoops..I think you meant to put this in the 2026 International HPAI Tracking Thread because it is not a human case ...

Just a side note: ducks and wild aquatic birds tend to be asymptomatic than than  chickens are when they spread and catch avian flu... That being said avian flu is probably asymptomatic for a very short time in chickens although they tend to die much faster than ducks and wild aquatic birds ... which means people really need to take precautions such as masking because they can't tell when these birds are really sick just by looking at them. That's probably going to be a common mistake in that a lot of people will make because they really can't tell when a duck or geese in a park or in a livestock situation  are sick or not like they think they can.

Many articles or health officials neglect to tell the public enough that avian flu amongst these birds and many other mammals can be so asymptomatic(symptomless as they spread it). Health officials just say if you see a sick bird leave it alone.. I would leave all birds alone to limit exposure .. you know don't touch, breathe in, or let your pets mingle with any birds.
