The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) has confirmed five new cases of measles in Belize, all originating from the Cayo District. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to seven, following two imported cases detected on April 12th.

Ontario reports 223 new measles cases in the last week. This takes their total to 1,242 cases so far this year which is very concerning.

SUMMARY - The nation of Morocco is currently experiencing the worst outbreak of measles in recent years although data suggests that the peak of the latest outbreak was in late January 2025. The strain of measles infecting Morocco is type B3 (which is common on the continent of Africa) with one isolated case of type D8 (indicating an infection from a foreign source).

SUMMARY - Health authorities in the nation of Uganda have announced that the Kumi District have confirmed a measles outbreak in Kumi Municipality and the neighboring sub-counties of Ongino and Nyero, prompting urgent public health interventions and a planned immunization campaign targeting children under five years. There are 26 cases of the measles so far.

NOTE - For international readers, an Ugandan district would be the equivalent of a state in the United States or a Province in Canada.

SUMMARY - The nation of Yemen has experienced over 1,400 measles cases from April through July 2025, a 219% increase in cases from the same time period of last year. The bulk of the spread is from Houthi-controlled areas of the country where low vaccination rates and anti-vaccination rhetoric from Houthi leaders is prevalent.

NOTE - The Houthis is a political and military organization backed by the nation of Iran who are currently at war with the internationally-recognized government of Yemen.
